For many people, the kitchen is considered the most popular room in the house. The “heart of the home” is often called where families and friends gather to cook, eat and make contacts. It is also important when it is time to sell the house. Many real estate experts say that the kitchen is generally considered the most important room in a house for resale value.
But what design options make the kitchen invitations for the homeowner and the potential buyer?
Houzz Inc., an online platform for the conversion and design of Home, reveals some ideas in his recently published 2025 US Houzz Kitchen Trends.
Size is one of these desired options. The survey of more than 1,600 respondents showed that more than a third of the homeowners increase the footprint of their kitchens during a renovation (35%).
With kitchens that are used for both food and entertainment, the study reports that homeowners near rooms sacrifice sacrifices that are traditionally reserved for similar tasks such as dining rooms (29%) and living room (12%), for larger kitchens to record. In addition, almost 1 out of 5 home owners build a home values to create more kitchen space (18%).

“Almost half of the houses in the USA is 42 years or older and was built to serve home owners from another era. While the kitchens take on a more central role in the daily activities, homeowners, neighboring rooms and outdoor spaces decide to give up for additional kitchen square meters in order to meet their needs, ”said Marine Sargsyan, Stabteanteconom by Hozz. “Kitchens already have the highest renovation editions of all internal projects, but what is noticeable is the increasing focus and the investments, the top 10% of homeowners spending the median for high-end major conversions triple.”

The investments in the renovation of kitchens continue to grow, especially for large and luxury kitchens. The median expenses for kitchen conversions is 60,000 US dollars, compared to $ 55,000 in the previous year. Homeowners in the 90th percentile of the output invest at least $ 180,000, triple the average or more. This reflects an increase of 20% for the renovation of the premium kitchen renovation, which began for the 90th percentile of expenses in 2023 at 150,000 USD. Additional findings from the 2025 US HUUZZ Kitchen trends include:
- Backplashes extends to the ceiling: Interest on the complete back splash cover rose last year, whereby the cover for cupboards or range increased by 5 percentage points to 67% and the complete cover on the ceiling rose by 2 percentage points to 12%. While the majority of homeowners choose tiles (76%), choose almost a quarter for bold back splashes with larger format plates (24%).
- The traditional style makes a comeback: While the transitional style continues to have a commanding lead in the kitchen (25%), the proportion of homeowners who chose the traditional style rose by 5 percentage points to the number 2 spot (14% ), which exceed modern and contemporary (12%or 11%).
- Black makes its brand on worktops: White is the top choice for main kitchen worktops, which were selected by almost two thirds of home owners (41% white and 23% discount). But black is the second most popular color (8%) and almost each of five home owners, which installs black for contrasting island worktops (18%).
- The accent cabinets with a glass front offer exhibition space: Shaker cabinets are the most common kitchen cabinet door style (61%), and more than half of the homeowners add an acknowledgment (52%) during the renovation. Glass ront cabinets are the highest under accent cabinet door styles (36%). Homeowners use this room to present glassware (52%), decorative objects (43%), dishes (34%) and cookbooks (23%).
- Photo finish in the soil material: vinyl or resilient floor coverings, hardwood and ceramic or porcelain tiles are a popular selection for kitchen floor (22%, 21%or 20%). This reflects a slow decline in the popularity of hardwood for renovated kitchens, which occurred in 2523 in 25% of the kitchens in 2024 and 24%.
– Special functions drive oven preferences: Almost two thirds of the homeowners choose ovens with special functions (63%), including the control of the telephone monitor (39%), the activation of remote timers (30%), control locks (30%), precise temperature control (25 %) and automated cooking (22%).
