If you want to extend the vegetation period into the colder months or want to progress for the next year, the main time is now to sow more vegetables. In fact, the list of what you can plant in August is long.
“As we move into late summer, there are still many harvests that you can now sow and enjoy before winter hits hit,” says Abbie Betts, garden buyer in Cherry Lane Garden Centers.
Abbie recommends sowing kale, spring onions and Swiss for the lack of harvesting the late season.
You can also sow Kohl like Cabbage 'April' by Thompson & Morgan for early harvest in the next spring. Or browse a large selection of salad seeds for quick harvests before the end of the vegetation period.

You can pick up green manure seeds from Thompson & Morgan for only £ 1.99.
