Alleghany County, Va. (WSET) – An unexamental smell had an Alleghany Highlands Middle School edition on Friday.
The Covington Middle School was evacuated around 2:20 p.m. after a smell was found in part of the building.

Students and employees were evacuated to the nearby Covington Recreation Center.
At the time of evacuation, the following departments helped:
- Covington fire brigade
- Covington Rescue Squad
- Schlumpf Westrock Rescue Squad
- Covington police department
- Covington Emergency Manager
- Emergency manager of Alleghany County
- Covington Parks and Recreation supported the necessary facilities in the Covington Recreation Center, in which the AHPS employees supervised the students
The employees say that a variety of checks of building systems, including the HLK systems, were carried out by AHPS employees and by employees of a regional provider of HLK services.
The employees say that the source of the smell was not identified from late Friday evening.
“There were no signs of a natural gas leak. With the support of the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and the Regional Hazardous Material Material team from Roanoke Valley, several checks were carried out,” said the public's public work. “There were no concerns about the boiler system and no concerns about wastewater protection.”
AHPS says that appropriate follow-up investigations are continued over the weekend.
In the report, the employees mention that there is a gas leak at CMS on Thursday, January 16.
“There was no gas leak,” said AHPS employee. “A smell was noticed in a wide area of the highlands and comes from an industrial source.”
However, there was a gas leak nearby, but not within CMS on January 14, which was caused by the work of the supply companies.
