iOS 18.4 Home app adds support for matter robot vacuum

The first beta of iOS 18.4 fell yesterday and includes an exciting smart home supplement that previously went under the radar. As tested by Jonathan in the Smart Home Center, the Home -app now supports robot vacuum and cards that integrate into the matter protocol.

The only compatible model on the market is currently Switchbot S10 robot vacuum and mopBut many other manufacturers have promised support for matter through upcoming software updates.

While almost all of these vacues have iPhone apps with which you can control them enables the native support via the Home -app Siri Voice commands and integration into the Unified Dashboard alongside all other Smart Home accessories. You can then also include the vacuum and MOP campaigns in your normal HomeKit automations and scenes.

After the configuration, you can control your vacuum with voice commands on your iPhone, HomePods, Apple TV and another iOS device.

The Apple Home app contains a simple but capable sentence of control elements for the S10 robot vacuum. You can specify the vacuum, start with cleaning or to prevent it from seting a current session, activated or deactivated and set a preset vacuum cleaner cleaning mode (such as quick or deep cleaning options). There is also a “Send to Dock” button, which should instruct the vacuum to return home to his charging station.

For advanced robot vacuum and MOP functions such as spatial allocation or setting user -defined routes, you must continue to open the companions app from the manufacturer. For the basics, however, you can only do this via the Apple Home app.

IOS 18.4 is currently in the developer and is expected to be published publicly as a free iPhone software update at some point in April. Support for Matter Robotic Vacuum is also available in the next version of other Apple operating systems such as Ipados 18.4, TVOS 18.4, Watchos 11.4 and MacOS 15.4.
