A remarkable centuries -old discovery was made in a historical and beautiful theater in Scotland.
A 119-year-old message in a bottle was discovered behind a crown decoration in the King's Edinburgh.
The bottle contained a list of people who helped in 1906 to build the theater, including prominent personalities such as the contractor William Stewart Cruickshank and the architect John Daniel Swanston.
The find occurred during the ongoing recovery work of £ 40 million, and experts used special techniques to carefully extract and preserve the note.
The discovery is shown in an upcoming exhibition in the theater that offers an insight into its fascinating history.
Theater dispenser and enthusiast Mike Hume uncovered the bottle that was hidden behind decorated crown decoration while touring the restoration project.
After months of careful work, the note was called up inside, which reveals the names of those who built the theater in 1906.
The Kings Theater team shared the news in a social media contribution, in which it says: “A message in a bottle that is hidden in King's Theater for 118 years.
“During the last week on a tour of the theater, King's supporter, theater photographer and historian Mike Hume discovered an object behind one of the decorated crowns over the stage.
“A bottle with a folded piece of paper inside – visible with the date of 1906. As if it were miracles, this discovery also summarized in 1906 with the anniversary of the opening of the King's Theater.
“Be looking forward to updates while we go to the Scottish nature conservation studio to open it safely and see what is in it.”
Mike said in the Instagram post: “It is crazy to believe that this time the capsule has been hidden in sight for almost 120 years and testifies to every performance by the king. I can't wait to find out what is in it.
“Maybe a new bottle will go up there for the next 120 years?!”
