Lubbock, Texas (KCBD) -a committed group of volunteers has affected Lubbock for over three decades by making repairs for home repairs for needy repairs.
Every Tuesday, volunteers come together to help low -income and disabled homeowners, especially over 60, to ensure that they have safe and comfortable places on life.
The Backyard mission, founded in 1992, focuses on solving problems such as roof production, plumber and heating. The organization works exclusively with donations and enables you to offer your services free of charge.
“The Lord showed me that we could do this kind of work here in our own back yard. Here the name came down, ”said Laurie Foster, founder and director of Backyard Mission.
One of the volunteers, Jackson Ashburn, has been with the organization since 2001.
He emphasizes the effect that this work has on both the volunteers and the homeowners.
“The only thing I can really tell you is the way it influenced me. It made me a better person; I have more aware of what is going on in my community around me, ”he said.
Maggie Flores, a home owner who recently received help.
After months on the waiting list, she welcomed volunteers to her house to carry out the necessary repairs.
“I just feel blessed. I mean, there is so much out there that people can help people who can't afford to do their things at home, ”she said.
With over 1,700 houses that have been repaired since the beginning, the organization is still obliged to support the Lubbock community.
