Roy served his country with honor and resilience for 12 years. As a mechanic of the US Army during the Operation Desert Storm, he kept the vehicles smoothly under the toughest conditions and ensured that his co -soldiers remained safe and mobile. These years shaped him and brought him the value of discipline, precision and steadfast commitment. After his military service, Roy switched to civilian life and used his technical and security skills to continue to support military personnel. He was in North -Chicago, Illinois, and for 28 years his house became a home – a place of laughter, love and memories that were shared with his family.

But over the years, Roys showed signs of wear at home. The floor in its kitchen began to renovate, leaks became a constant concern, and the bathroom was no longer functional for its needs. Most of all, it was a challenge to enter and leave safely. The once driven walls of his sanctuary felt like obstacles and threatened his security and independence.

Then the Habitat of the Lake -Mchenry advocated humanity to restore more than just his house – they helped to restore his peace of mind.

A team of committed volunteers got to work and converted Roy's house with significant renovation work:

  • A ramp installation now enables Roy to enter and leave his house safely and effortlessly. He no longer has to worry, stumble or fall.

  • A complete remodel of the kitchen dissolved continued leaks and fixed the cave floor. What was once a dangerous area is now a room in which Roy and his family can gather, cook and share meals without fear or complaints.

  • An accessible renovation from Bad made daily routines more manageable and restored its dignity and independence.

When the finishing touches were completed, Roy looked around in his restored home, his eyes were gratitude with tears. It was not just the physical repairs that meant so much – it was the feeling of security and stability. After years of giving his country, Roy was able to live safely and comfortably in the house that he has appreciated for almost three decades.

This transformation was made possible by the commitment of the habitat for humanity for critical home repairs in the Chicagoland region. Lake-Mchenry Habitat for Humanity put more than just walls and floors restored to restore a veteran who gave so much to restore hope and dignity.

Habitat is proud to support veterans like Roy, who gave our country so much to ensure that they have a safe and comfortable place where they can call at home.
