Ihl received a clean exam for the 2024 financial year, the board was informed at its last meeting.
The board of trustees of the Mississippi institutions from universities added a new course of study to remedy the lack of teachers in the state, and received a favorable opinion on its latest examination.
The board also named in a center at Mississippi State University as part of his declaration of consent during the meeting on Thursday and removed the term “diversity” from the name.
Holmes Center for Success in Students in Mississippi State
After the declaration of consent, the Holmes Cultural Diversity Center at the MSU will now be known as a Holmes Center for Student Success, according to the IHL board for the meeting on March 20, 2025.
The board book says that the center will expand its offers to specialized programs, which are devoted to the support of the first generation students, with low income and nursing hearings. ”
According to MSU, the center became Dr. Richard Holmes named, who registered the first African American student at the university in 1965. After completing the MSU, he worked in the army for two years before returning to acquire his master's degree. Holmes later completed the medical faculty at the Michigan State University and had a successful career as a doctor.
New Master graduation at MUW
The IHL board also approved a new graduate path at Mississippi University for Women – the Master of Arts in elementary school education.
Dr. Casey Prestwood, deputy commissioner of academic and student affairs, informed the board of directors that the new study path would be accommodated under the School of Education. Since currently available resources are used to set the new study path, the course work will not result in costs.
The new program is expected to achieve a new sales of more than 800,000 US dollars over five years.
The 33-hour program enables people with a bachelor's degree based not on education, at the same time a K-6 apprenticeship and a master's degree.
According to Prestwood, the new course of study can help to remedy the state's lack of teachers, which in 2023-2024 was 2,775 empty positions, 815 of which were in the basic level.
“Despite legislative efforts such as the increase in teachers for teachers 2022, the number of vacancies has increased, which indicates that further measures are necessary to solve the problem,” added Prestwood.
HLK improvements at Ole Miss
A fifth phase of ongoing work at the University of Mississippi aims to improve the energy efficiency of the institution. This latest phase of the multi-phase project includes the improvement of building automation controls in 15 buildings and the improvement of four mechanical systems and HLK systems in several buildings over 18 months, to name some of the projects.
The buildings to obtain HLK improvements include the library of the University, the Peabody Hall, the Fulton Chapel and the Barnard Observatory.
The scope of work is expected to cost 10.4 million US dollars, but it is promised to achieve more than 550,000 US dollars of energy savings annually, said Brad Rowland, Associate Commissioner for Real Estate and Institutions, the IHL board.
The contract is added to an additional 1.4 million US dollars, which are distributed for review and measurement purposes during these 19 years, added Rowland.
The university's power company, the Tennessee Valley Authority, offered incentives of a total of 500,000 US dollars after completing the project, with which, according to Rowland, the project can compensate for the costs.

The board heard that IHL had received an unexpected financial opinion for the 2024 financial year.
