Events in the Wexford County Civic Center could change locations in the middle of roof repairs - 9 & 10 messages

Cadillac – After strong winds have torn part of the roof of the Wexford County Civic Center, several planned events are now hanging in balance.

“Our maintenance board works with the roofing company to receive an estimate when these repairs can be carried out,” said Joe Porterfield, Administrator from Wexford County.

From Thursday you do not know when the Wexford County Civic Center will be back in operation to enable events for the event location.

One of them is the governor's annual breakfast in the next month.

“All schools have children who come to the event. It is only a good thing for these children to see the governor,” said Porterfield. “They listen to what they have to say and see the other leaders of our community out there who support the things that happen in our region.”

Porterfield said instead of canceling events that are further away, hope to take other precautions through Boon Sports Management, the company that takes over all activities in the WEX.

“I know that Boon Sports Management is investigating other options in the city. But hopefully we have it on and things can progress as normal,” said Porterfield.

Porterfield does not know exactly how many events were canceled, he said that that was a question for Boon.

We turned to Boon and haven't heard yet.

What Porterfield knows is how much the cost of the roof repair could possibly be.

“$ 150,000,” said Porterfield.

The center of the center must still be deregistered in the quote, which could happen at a session next week.
