If you have ever tried the night at a building location, in an emergency team or just to illuminate a massive outdoor area, you know how chunky and frustrating traditional lighting towers can be. Stopping, loud and slowly furnished – they were the only option. Until now.
Enter the Flying Sun 1000, a revolutionary lighting system based on drone shine the night – literally. These companies in Washington, known for its Alta X, developed this from FREFLY SYSTEMS, a company known for its Alta X, and offers 300,000 lumens of focused LED lighting from above. This is about as bright as stadium floodlights. But instead of needing a crane or a tower, it only takes one operator and a few minutes to put the flying sun into the air.
Traditional light towers can be a problem, especially in unpredictable environments such as construction zones or disaster areas. The flying sun 1000 makes all of this. Tie it to a 5 -kW generator, an electric vehicle or a standard power, and this drone can hover silently (with only 56 decibels) Days – no refueling, no repositioning, no excitement.
With a fly of around 100 feet, it can shed light on about 14,000 square meters with 10 foot candles, which offers the type of lighting that you would expect in a well-lit parking space for shopping centers. Push it higher and the drone covers over 130,000 square foot – about the size of two soccer fields. And yes, it is still usable light.

One of the smartest functions of the drone is how it stays cool. With 288 Ultra-British LEDs that exhaust massive amounts of light, warmth could be a problem. But the flying sun uses its own rotor wash – the air flow generated by its propellers down to cool down the lights. This intelligent design not only keeps the temperatures in chess, but also ensures that the drone can take thousands of hours without requiring service.
The entire setup is small enough to fit into the back of an emergency vehicle. Regardless of whether you are a firefighter, an engineer or make a film on site, you can start it on the fly and light up the scene in a few minutes. There is even a battery-operated option if you have to explore without being tied to a power source- perfect for search and rescue processes.
At 60,000 USD per unit, the flying sun is not cheap. However, if you compare it with the costs for the installation of several poles, execution of cables, setting a setup crew and the implementation of maintenance, this drone sees like an intelligent long-term investment especially for large-scale, mobile or high risk processes. It is also safer and avoids the risk of driving and flood risks of floor -based setups.
Freifly also sees the potential for the flying sun in the film industry. The light of a night scene usually requires massive rigs, lots of equipment and tons of preparation times. The flying sun can replace all of this with a drone and a controller. Immediate light. Minimal shadow. No blind spots.
Frefly says that production is limited to only 10 units per month, with the first programs going out in June 2025. So if you are under construction, public security, energy, disaster aid or filmmaking and you want to go into the future of night work, your chance is now.
