Spokesman Pro Tem Smit proud to support the restoration of local control

The spokesman Pro Tem Rachelle Smit, R-Martin, announced her support for laws on Tuesday that would restore local location control for large wind and solar projects. The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) can currently approve enormous projects for renewable energies in municipalities throughout the state without a sensible input from local officials. The MPSC received the authority as part of the comprehensive green energy mandate adopted in 2023.

“There is no one who is better suited to make decisions for a community than the people elected from the same community,” said Smit, who acted as Martin Township Clerk for seven years. “Local control that was dismantled was a perversion of the principles of which the local governments consist of. The radical democrats deployed a core function of the local government and gave them a state authority handmade from our left -wing governor. Republicans then foul, and we have worked to reverse this abuse of the legislative power, since then, since then, the first position, since then, in which local control was rolled back.

The MPSC consists of three non -elected bureaucrats, all of which are appointed by the governor and serve for six years. The entire MPSC has currently been appointed governor Gretchen Whitmer.

The plan, House Bills 4027 and 4028, would restore local control for large -scale projects of renewable energies and take the authority of career agencies in Lansing.

The legislation passed the House Energy Committee and now moves into the house floor for further examination.
