Trohes. The OMP tutorage is everywhere this year. My brothers see them around the farm every day, and when they drive down the Center Road and are on the right in the Swaney Road or Tompkins Road, you will undoubtedly see a herd of them in the fields and orchard. Here is a couple in the Ridgewood Road. I think they are so pretty.

And while we are there, you will find a photo of the Ridgewood Road next to Bagley Pond. I love it when it starts to get too green and lush. I didn't see the swans there this spring. Perhaps you have finally found out that your babies would never survive with these turtles!

The Omp Racing Club. This is a “Heard Through the Grapevine” position. I have heard a rumor that there is a “racing club” that populated the OMP with its fast cars. And that the barn incident on the Bluff Road was one of these racing drivers at the beginning of this year (the driver survived and the owner has restored the barn since then, but with this massive anchor at the door this could have achieved a completely different result).

I have also heard that one of the racing club's things is to see who can get to the Mission Point Lighthouse the fastest with only side streets. Again completely unfounded, but let me know if you have heard something!

Since the incident with barns, the municipal administrator Maura Sanders has applied for more police reporting, and I have definitely seen an increase in police reporting on OMP roads (including my own incident – history in the areas of appearance!).

Yesterday I was on my way to checking my postbox in the old mission spost office and took place on a patrol car that had overtaken an unsuspecting Speeder on the Center Road north of the Old Mission Road. (You can't see it in the photo below, but there was a car in front of the police car).

The middle road from Hogsback to the lighthouse is immediately and since the beginning of the time a section of the street on which Speeder let go. So it was easy to see that someone had been run over – even if it didn't seem to be a member of the “racing club” at first glance.

Haserot Beach. The swimming buims are on the beach of Haserot! If only the weather cooperated and warm up so that the people there would not swim in a polar vertebrae.

Old Mission Tavern News. Was it sold? It is definitely something in progress. This is another “listener” through the Grapevine, but my sources are pretty good in this case. If you check the real estate list of the tavern, you will find that there is an “outstanding” before “for sale”. Here is what I know:

On January 15, 2025, a limited liability company was submitted to Michigan for the Center Road Tavern LLC. The company's registration status is listed as active and its file number is 803326689.

In addition, the registered agent for the company Stephanie Krupka, which I believe is that she is the daughter of Jim and Fran Krupka. I know Fran through the old Mission Women's Club, and many of them know Jim for his work and his commitment to the St. Joseph Catholic Church. He is also chairman of the Board of Chateau Chantal.

This is a great news when the tavern can end up in the hands of a locals. The next question is, when will it be opened again? I think I can speak for the collective OMP when I say, I hope it will be soon!

Block house day. The old Mission Peninsula Historical Society will hold part of a nationwide celebration of the Pioneer cabins on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to 3 p.m. to 3 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The places for the celebration include a mission point lighthouse at the end of the M37/Center Road, the Hessler Block Cabin (next to the lighthouse) and Peter Dougherty Mission House and Museum and the Historic Block Church, both on the Mission Road in the old mission.

As in previous years, this year's log house day ERA-based music, poetry and historical crafts and demonstrations such as quilt will contain handicrafts and more. The Maritime Heritage Alliance usually also produces one or two historical boat failures.

The Hessler Bog Cabin is open for tours inside, a one -year event. The mission point lighthouse will also be open to tours, and the income on this day is intended for historical society. With the exception of the Lighthouse tour (which are a few dollars), other activities are free.

The Historical Society recently sponsored a renovation of the replica of Dougherty's historical block church in 1939 in the village of the old mission. The ads inside have been renewed and updated.

The restored Hessler cabin was originally in Underwood Farms. In the nineties, a group of volunteers disassembled the cabin and moved them to Lighthouse Park. Once in the park it was put together and restored by volunteers, which then formed the old Mission Peninsula Historical Society, a 501C3 organization, to continue their maintenance. Here is a picture of my father Walter Johnson and Hedy Quick, who were part of the log house team.

Support your independent local newspaper: I founded the Old Mission Gazette in 2015 because I had an appointment to provide the Old Mission Peninsula Community local news. After decades of writing for newspapers and magazines such as The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, I really just wanted to write about my own community, where I grew up on a cherry farm and grew up my own family. So I founded my own newspaper.

Since the old mission Gazette is a “reader supported newspaper” – which means that it exists because of your financial support – I hope that you are considering throwing a few dollars on our way when I mention your event, your business, organization or your messages or just like to read what happens on the OMP. At a time when local news belongs to the past, it is now more important than ever to support an independent community newspaper. Thank you for your support! -Jane Boursaw, editor/publisher, Old Mission Gazette
