The city of Cape Town has completed a great renovation in the Vygieskraal Athletics Stadium in Athlone and improved the user -friendliness of the facility.
The upgrade to the stadium included the installation Brand new floodlights, repairs of roofers worth almost 1 million R and the restoration of the opening and long jump areas.
In an explanation on Saturday, the city said that the sanitary and electric systems were also improved, while new spectator seats will improve the visitor experience. Other upgrades include ongoing work on the sewage line as part of the planned maintenance.
This work is part of a broader investment to improve the functionality of the stadium. Upgrades were also carried out in the adjacent rugby facility, with parking and fence projects being completed in the current financial year. Additional lighting is installed in the new financial year.
“These milestones show the city's commitment to a high -quality public sports infrastructure. By investing in these upgrades, we ensure that athletes of all ages and skills have safe, inviting and well -equipped rooms to train and compete.
“It will ensure that our sports facilities offer safe, high -quality rooms for communities. By continuing to invest in this renovation, we create permanent value and support a healthier lifestyle for the residents,” said Francine Higham, member of the mayor's committee for non -profit services and health.
The city said that the work on the Wesfleur -a -Athletics Track in Atlantis and the Blue Downs Athletics Track is still underway and is expected to be completed before the upcoming athletics season.
The overall investment in the reinstatement of athletics tracks in these two facilities is approximately 60 million R.
The renovations of athletics are part of a strategic urban program, which is led by an athletics study 2021, with the aim of achieving security during sports and leisure safety. Events Act (sasrea) compliance and expansion of access to facilities across Cape Town. The aim is to secure the Sasrea class and to ensure safer and accessible facilities across Cape Town.
