Tropicana field repairs could be 4 million US dollars more than expected

“Now that I live in the city center, I really miss it to go into the trop, and I really hope you do things,” said Brian Bucklew, who lives in St. Pete.

Brian Bucklew is a fan of the Tampa Bay Rays and said he wanted to see that they would return to Tropicana Field.

“It is very lively, it makes the city very lively when the Rays games play,” said Bucklew.

He said St. Pete needed the rays back, no matter how much it costs to repair Tropicana Field after it was damaged by Hurricane Milton last year.

“I would like to have the local team as we had before … It is something else for us locals,” said Bucklew.

He said it was important for tourism and to help small companies survive.

“We don't have the fan base every weekend that comes down and visits all local bars such as Fergs and all local shops, which is very sad,” said Bucklew.

The city of St. Pete could soon invest more money in Tropicana Field.

The original proposed repair costs were 55.7 million dollars … but soon this could increase to 59.7 million US dollars.

Next week, the city will vote to spend additional money to pay for field smell, more roof costs, drywall repairs and more.

“In my opinion, we need the flow of income into the city,” said Bucklew.

The city states that it is trying to finance the additional costs with Fema money and insurance.

Robert Judalena believes that the city should instead concentrate on helping people in the community.

“Put what people need, like support in healthcare, the homeless, give them people who need them,” said Judalena.

He also said that the city is already fuller and more attractions are not necessary.

“I miss the old St. Pete, who was a little more reserved, and with all the people who here and everything so, we no longer need activities. I don't think the income should go there,” said Judalena.

The city is contractually obliged to repair Tropicana Field so that the rays can play there until 2028 …

But Judalena said it is not worth investing so much money for just three other baseball sowers.

“We have a lot of sport in the Tampa Bay Area, and I don't think this must be in the city center of St. Pete,” said Judalena.
