Close New Orleans libraries, while AC errors remain

The basement library has been closed since June 30 and the main library has been closed since August 1, said Nopl.

This is the second summer in a row in which the now 30-year HLK system of the main library has failed in the heat.

Norman Mayer, Main, Algiers, East New Orleans and Keller need new HLK systems, according to the NOPL director for marketing and communication, Jane Legros.

Shannan Cvitanovic, the managing director of the non -profit friends of New Orleans Public Library, was frustrated about the extended closures.

“This is a community resource that the people are dependent on,” said Cvitanovic, “and if we have these extended closures, people who find out or just check out books or get out of the heat affects. These are not free services. We have paid the library, and I think we have the right to ask the city to accelerate to the opening of this buildings?”
