2024 has been a very exciting and fun year as we rethink the way we connect with our spaces, as homes transform into living expressions of who we are. This year, decor trends went beyond aesthetics and emphasized individuality and practicality. Whether you sought the tranquility of coastal living, the geometric glamor of a bygone era, or the harmonious blend of East and West, this year had something to offer that reflected our evolving tastes.
As we look back and revisit the design and decor trends that defined 2024, we examine how we can still transform our spaces into reflections of ourselves today, especially with these epic design themes and color combinations featured in observed in a survey conducted by Birla Opus Paints.
Coastal silence
With many beach and ocean lovers looking to transform their homes into the perfect getaway, breezy coastal themes are becoming increasingly popular. Soft blues, sandy neutrals and driftwood accents helped create spaces reminiscent of the tranquility of a seaside retreat. Sauteed Blue (a very light greenish blue) and Sandy Beach (pale orange-yellow) were the preferred shades to capture this calming aesthetic for consumers. Accent walls in Jaali Sunset (a brownish orange) also added a touch of warmth, reminiscent of a sunset over the ocean.
The geometric glamor of Neo-Deco
This year, Art Deco's sophisticated cousin, Neo Deco, made a big appearance. Bold geometric patterns, luxurious materials like velvet and brass, and rich color palettes defined this trend. The Neo-Deco style moved away from understatement and introduced interesting and unique designs to enhance spaces. A piece of river paired with gold-plated bronze accents created spaces that exuded timeless elegance. For a softer interpretation, white lines with touches of emerald jewels added a touch of vintage charm.
The natural embrace of biophilic design
The desire to connect with nature continued to flourish in 2024, with biophilic design taking center stage. Natural light, lush surrounding greenery and organic materials transformed homes into calming oases. Forest Fairy (Light Green), Kala Ghoda Museum (Earthy Grey) and Dusky Indigo provided the perfect backdrop for this nature-inspired trend, allowing natural elements to really shine.
Maximalist magic
For those who chose bold self-expression, maximalism reigned supreme. Vibrant colors, eclectic patterns and layered textures created spaces full of personality and energy. Malabar Coast (Teel), September in Kashmir and Vegetarian Lunch were some trendy colors that provided the perfect palette for this vibrant trend. Mixing and matching these shades allowed for truly unique and expressive statements.
Japandi's simplicity
A new addition to the decor section this year was Japandi, a harmonious blend of Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian functionality. Clean lines, natural materials and a focus on craftsmanship characterized Japandi's spaces and continued to attract interest from consumers looking to redesign their homes. Misty Moor (light grey), Kerala Moon and Mexican Aesthetic (light beige) were the ideal shades to achieve this calming aesthetic and create a sense of balance and calm for this trend to shine in consumers' homes.
