How to clean a lighting treatment that you cannot achieve
- Switch off the electricity. Before you start cleaning a lamp, make sure that the performance has been switched off and the light has cooled completely.
- Cover the floor. Place a plan or a large droplet under your lamp to protect the floor and catch dust.
- Check your ladder. If you use a ladder or a step chair, check whether it is stable and you can keep it safe.

How to clean a chandelier
- Switch off the electricity. Before starting, make sure that the performance has been switched off and all parts of the chandelier have cooled completely.
- Check your ladder. If you use a ladder or step chair to reach the chandelier, check whether it is stable and hold it safely.
- Dust a microfiber cloth. Kaylie Hill, the ambassador of the Scottish Brit and the cleaning influences, recommends to carefully wipe off each piece of the chandelier with a subdued microfiber cloth.
- Work in sections. “Cleaning according to section helps the process to feel better manageable and to ensure that nothing is missed,” says Hill.
- Use a glass cleaner. As soon as each piece has been wiped down, Hill recommends returning with a glass cleaner. Instead of spraying it directly onto the chandelier, the cleaning professional recommends spraying it onto a new, dry microfiber cloth and carefully cleaning each piece.
Tips for cleaning a lighting treatment that you cannot achieve
Remove the hanging light colors
Every kind of lights has its challenges, but according to Hill the key uses the correct cleaning tools.
“For trailers, I suggest removing the shadow if possible and distracting it with a sponge with zero scraps to lift fat and fingerprints,” says Hill.
She explains that you can often disassemble glass or stainless steel pendant lights and wash with soap and water in the sink when a deeper cleaning is required.
Use a telescopic staff
A swiffer duster with an expandable handle is Wilson's on-call tool for lights outside the device.
“If it is still short and you don't want to pull out a ladder or stand in a chair, stick it on a telescopic pole,” says Wilson.
