Comprehensive innovative designs and sustainable solutions for modern living

Mumbai, the financial capital of India, is home to a large number of aging buildings and houses that are in dire need of renovation. The city's rapid growth and urbanization has led to a significant increase in demand for housing, resulting in a lack of space and an increase in dilapidated buildings.

Many homes in Mumbai are decades old, have outdated infrastructure, inadequate lighting and ventilation, and cramped living spaces.

Renovation is essential to transform these outdated homes into modern, comfortable and sustainable living spaces that meet the needs of Mumbai's fast-paced and ever-evolving lifestyle.

A designer plays a crucial role in transforming an old house into a stunning and functional living space. This includes creating a comprehensive floor plan, selecting materials and finishes, designing custom elements, and evaluating electrical and plumbing systems and recommending upgrades or modifications as needed.

According to research by Mordor Intelligence, renovations account for 61% of the interior design market in India and are expected to grow at 7% in the next five years. Given the high rents in Mumbai, speed, timeliness and delivery costs are critical to tapping the market for occupied houses that need upgrading. There is a large target group that wants a high-quality, long-lasting designer home with all bathrooms, kitchens, etc. Electrical and civil engineering work under one room managed on time and within budget.

“I have a background in government, so business and design were new territory for me. To add to my disadvantages, I moved to Mumbai and started my business there. However, little did I know that my parents’ transferable government job has helped me adapt and appeal to a wider audience by enhancing my ability to add design to old houses,” says Smita Vijaykumar Contractor, Founder, ReNNovate Interiors , Mumbai.

Renovations and construction-intensive projects that require a lot of architectural and technical expertise are difficult for online design companies to handle due to their scalability issues. There is a huge gap in the market between interior designers and architects. Traditionally, architects prefer projects worth ₹1 crore or more that take 6 months to a year to complete, while interior designers prefer projects worth ₹1-15 lakh.

A woman's ability to create warm, inviting and highly functional environments is enhanced by her deep understanding of how spaces influence daily life. Thanks to their attention to detail, their creativity and their ability to balance form and function, they create breathtaking transformations.

By fostering collaboration with clients, contractors and suppliers, women-led design firms ensure smooth project delivery and manage complex logistical and technical aspects.

“Women are an integral part of home interior design decision-making and reNnovate is a woman-owned, women-only design firm that offers comprehensive services from design to execution with warranty and post-installation services in the Mumbai area. Smita continues.
