The disadvantageous effects of chlorine exposure-from rashes and eye irritation to more serious concerns such as asthma flare ups, hormone disorders and even reduced sperm numbers are increasingly understood.

“It is better for our health, better for our energy consumption and better for the environment. Why don't we do it all?” Durie asked about an explanation.

This feeling underpins the entire design of the Avalon residence, in which each element was carefully considered in order to minimize the environmental impact and at the same time maximize life and luxury.

The house itself is proof of sustainable design and cascaded seven floors, each offer unique water views.

It consists of recycled concrete and sandstone and masterfully combines life in resort with remarkably low electricity invoices.

Durie's journey began in 2015 and acquired the approximately 1000 square meter Avalon Beach for around $ 2.3 million.

Durie began a five-year research mission before he was committed to the final design and was inspired by the sculptural, recycled concrete from Sydney's punchbowl mosque to carpets from recycled fishermen.

Today's master piece comprises a roof garden that is decorated with 1000 year old grass trees from Western Australia, a self-supporting guest house, a Wellbebeng zone with a mirrored yoga and Pilates room and access to the private beach.

The unprecedented interest in the apartment, as Durie found in an interview with the financial review, is not surprising.

“We are so interested in the house. We had letters in the mailbox and knock on our doors who asked at a look,” he told the publication.

The property was listed with McGraths James Baker by an expression on interests in the first week of November.
