“Bed Stuy House Tour Returns for 47th Year”

The annual opportunity for architecture enthusiasts to take a look inside some of Bed Stuy's private homes returns with the 47th edition of the Brownstoners of Bedford-Stuyvesant House Tour. The tour typically includes about a dozen homes with original features, modern upgrades and work in progress to showcase the neighborhood's creativity.

Visitors can brainstorm ideas for renovations and restorations, and the owners are usually on hand to share war stories, renovation tips and recommendations.

The civic organization's signature event took place virtually in the midst of the pandemic in 2020, offering supporters a guided video tour of a handful of homes in the historic district. In 2023, the event was again held in an in-person format, where, despite the rainy weather, enthusiastic participants toured homes and viewed historical ornaments and some recently completed renovations.

This year the self-guided tour will take place on Saturday, October 18th. The event was the first initiative of the Brownstoners of Bedford-Stuyvesant, founded in 1978. In addition to building a community to promote Bed Stuy's culture and heritage, the tour also raises funds for scholarships. A portion of the tour's proceeds will benefit the college dreams of students at Boys and Girls High School and Brooklyn Academy High School.

The day begins with a free workshop on home ownership from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The house tour will then take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. To find out which houses are on the tour, you must have a ticket and check in at the Boys and Girls High School starting point at 1700 Fulton Street. Ticket holders will receive a brochure with all the details; The brochure is required for entry to each of the houses on the tour.

Tickets are available online for $40 (plus a service fee) or at select local stores through October 17. Tickets on the day of the tour are $45. Further information about the event and how to purchase a ticket can be found online on the event page.
