Burglars have smashed several glass doors in the last four days as they attempted to break into three homes in Atherton following a community safety briefing on burglaries in the town.
The first reported burglary occurred on Faxon Road around 9 p.m. Saturday. The suspects broke a sliding glass door and no items were reported missing, police said.
According to police, the second burglary occurred on Mulberry Lane the same day at approximately 10:21 p.m. No items were reported missing and police had no leads on a suspect.
A third burglary was reported to police today, which occurred on Faxon Forest Road between Friday and today. The suspects broke several glass windows and doors to get into the home, police said.
In none of the cases were there any arrests. Police are asking residents to check their surveillance cameras for possible clues. Police determined the break-ins followed the same pattern, breaking windows to gain access to the homes' master bedrooms, Chief Steven McCulley said in a statement.
The three break-ins came following a community safety meeting Thursday to help residents stay informed about how to keep the neighborhood safe.
Police gave homeowners the following tips to reduce the chances of being hit by burglars:
· Lock all doors and windows when leaving the house, even for a short time.
· Leave lights, television or radio on to give the impression that someone is home.
· Use outdoor lighting and motion detectors to deter intruders.
· Prune shrubs and trees to avoid hiding places around doors and windows.
· Keep valuables in a safe or other protected location.
· Consider installing a monitored alarm system or security cameras.
