Pietermaritzburg's residential landscape is set for an exciting transformation with the opening of Jesmondene Lifestyle Estate – a vibrant, environmentally conscious development that was unveiled at the Pietermaritzburg and Midlands Chamber of Business (PMCB) banquet last Friday evening.
A new benchmark for modern living in the city, Jesmondene combines comfort, convenience and sustainability, offering residents safe, affordable and stylish homes in one of Pietermaritzburg's most sought-after growth corridors.

Quality, safe accommodation
Speaking at the launch of the project, Jesmondene Lifestyle Estate Director Kevin Beekrum said the idea for the development came about after market research showed an urgent need for quality, safe and affordable residential accommodation in the town.
“The Jesmondene vision was born in 2020, during one of the most challenging times of our lives.
Through a series of complex negotiations, the 58,000 square meter site at the top of Hayfields was successfully acquired and the transfer was completed in July 2022.
“The project was designed and guided by what we call the five Ps: People, Planet, Passion, Purpose and Profit – a philosophy that ensures Jesmondene is developed with balance, responsibility and long-term sustainability.
“After three years of detailed planning led by a highly qualified and experienced technical team, we are proud to announce that Jesmondene Lifestyle Estate is now ready to be presented to the Pietermaritzburg community,” Beekrum said.
Beekrum said it was a privilege to work with the PMCB and use the prestigious occasion of its annual business banquet to officially unveil the exciting new development.
He thanked all actors and partners who contributed to the realization of the project.
“A project of this magnitude is never the work of a single person, but rather the result of collaboration, vision and shared goal.
“I would therefore like to express my sincere appreciation to our internal team – a group of dedicated professionals who have helped make Jesmondene what it is today,” he said.
335 units
The property will comprise 335 units housed in modern two-story buildings offering one, two and three bedroom apartments.
Residents have access to three themed clubhouses, landscaped green spaces, a cycling and running track and a lively retail center.
