KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 8 – Ten Malaysia Stadium Corporation (PSM) employees and contractors have been assigned to be on standby during the 2025 Malaysia Open to ensure there is no repeat of yesterday's roof leak incident at Axiata Arena.
PSM said in a statement that the Public Works Department (JKR) and contractors are also working together to carry out the necessary repairs, which are currently underway.
“PSM has identified the problematic areas and expedited the necessary repair work,” it said.
PSM also apologized to all parties, especially the organizers and badminton fans, for the roof leak incident that disrupted the opening matches of the tournament, which had to be temporarily suspended.
The incident resulted in water dripping from the roof and wetting the surface of the playing fields, prompting organizers to temporarily cover the wet areas with fabric.
Meanwhile, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) said in a statement that a number of matches have been postponed to the second day of the Super 1000 competition today.
Matches involved include the abandoned No. 3 men's singles match between HS Prannoy of India and Canada's Brian Yang, and the men's doubles match of Rasmus Kjaer-Frederik Sogaard of Denmark against Indonesian duo Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani. —Bernama
