After trying the "slow decoration rule" in my kitchen, I decided to use it in every room

There is something from which I only love before and after kitchen transformations – it is just as satisfactory to see how a complete revision unfolds. I renovated my last house in 49 days, including a dramatic intestinal job of the kitchen, and it felt like it Good (Although not recommended in this period!). In my current home, a tri level from the middle of the century with a vintage-rosa wall oven in the kitchen, things run a little (okay, a much) Slower.

The same budget restrictions for parts and only from several years of rather relentless renovation work are tired. I just want to relax at home (a new concept, no?). Fortunately, the kitchen is as good as it is. It is definitely a wish list (these 70-year-old Formica counters show their age, and the busy black and white vinyl floor that the former owners have installed is not quite the mood we want), but there is simply no urgency.

Regardless of the fact that I really bend myself into the entire “slow decorations”. This idea, which should not be revolutionary, but somehow in our immediate satisfaction and our life should be operated with algorithm, encourages us to take a breath of breath when it comes to making our houses our own. It is also good with the designer Jessica Rhodes, who is shared by her own breathtaking kitchen repetition, well with the designer of the no-ceno-reno approach. Her thoughts about the kitchen design really found me.

This approach has gained steam for some time, but this is the first time that I was in a place where it not only feels right, but also necessary. There is no budget to tear out the kitchen – and it doesn't need it! This means that I can get involved, learn how to work in it, and spend some time to think about what our little household would make happiest. For example the serious vintage hob for electrical coils? We are not ready to improve our cookware collection for an induction -friendly goods. The dirty, beaten sink? Quite high on the upgrade priority list. We can take time and save some money for the ground.

The only things we have done so far are the walls and cupboards that have a lamp (Menards for winning 50 US dollars!) And made some shelves. Oh, and there was no refrigerator, so we had to buy a new one. I have not yet selected cabinet hardware, let alone a back splash. The truth is that none of this is important for someone, and we like to organize friends and families for meals or drinks and do we advise what? Nobody makes it that the kitchen is ongoing.

Why I “slowly decorate” my kitchen

There is a feeling of relief that goes hand in hand with the fact that dozens of decisions do not have to make because they do not have to find out how and where they have to cook with a kitchen that is outside the commission during a renovation, with only … with the river. And I know that when we are ready, we are updating some things HowInstead of desperately from what is really available in this minute.

This leaves time for inspiration to appear in unexpected places. In Detroit we were recently in an incredibly restored building, the book tower, where the French restaurant Le Suprême has an open kitchen near the lobby. My husband and I did every time we came in to admire the kitchen, especially the beautiful, chunky wooden worktop in an unusual red tone. I didn't know that I wanted butcher block, but as soon as I saw this kitchen, the decision was made. With the luxury of the time I tracked down the designer (Stokes Architecture & Design) and received sourcing information (it is a John Boos Walnut number that you can bet on the Vision Board!).

The kitchen, as it is now, is comfortable, it is homely, it is perfectly fine. We will slowly improve over time and know that every element that is in, on purpose and inspiration has been selected that it really reflects us and that we don't just buy things to check the field and switch to what comes next. Maybe there is no dramatic preliminary and after time – for a while (or maybe ever!), But that's more than okay with us.
