U.S. and international authorities released guidance on integrating artificial intelligence into operational technology on December 3. Designed to help critical infrastructure owners and operators securely integrate AI tools into operational systems, the guide focuses on four key principles: understanding the unique risks and potential impacts of AI integration into OT environments; Assess the specific business case for deploying AI in OT environments and manage OT data security risks; establishing AI governance and assurance frameworks; and embedding security practices into AI and AI-powered OT systems.
“This guidance can assist hospitals in their efforts to safely integrate AI tools into physical facility activities such as energy controls, HVAC, life safety systems, door access controls, physical security systems and alarms,” said John Riggi, AHA national advisor for cybersecurity and risk.
