Altes Zug Caboose finds a new home as Airbnb in Lock Haven after a 3-year restoration project

A Zug -Caboose restoration project that is three years in the creation has now been completed.

The New York Central Railroad 17909 Caboose has been fully restored and is now open for use as Airbnb.

In 2022, the deteriorating comby was moved by a restaurant in the Center Hall for restoration to Beech Creek.

It should be a new home in Philipsburg, but this plan did not work. Last year the Clinton County Historical Society took possession of the caboose and was moved to her new home at the former Castanea train station near Lock Haven.

A dedication ceremony took place on Sunday afternoon to present the restored piece of the story of Central Pennsylvania Railroad.

The caboose was originally built in the early 20th century and was the last wooden car that drove up the “Pine Creek Valley” until this railway line was abandoned in the early 1960s.

“We are here in the Bach Creek Railroad and happy. Lock Haven is the old city of Beech Creek. This is the train station that we had in Philipsburg. When I grew up, the person in Philipsburg was demolished.

The New York Central Railroad Caboose and a Caboose from Pennsylvania Railroad are now available for accommodations via Airbnb.

The two cabooses are located at the end of the Logan Avenue in Castanea, over the Bach von Lock Haven.
