AMLSN President calls for innovative approaches to environmental deterioration

The national president of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists in Nigeria (AMLSN), Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi has asked all government levels to implement guidelines that promote a healthy environment to improve public health.

Kuru, Jos, Dr. IFeanyi, the 15th President of the Association of the Association of the Association of Association, underlined the essential role in the 19th annual lecture of public health at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), which plays environmental deterioration in the deteriorating state of public health in Nigeria.

He found that environmental damage caused by oil investigations, mining activities and the non -regulated deposits of waste in rivers had serious negative effects on the health of citizens.

Dr. IFeanyi explained: “Plateau state, together with neighboring states such as Nasarawa, Niger and Zamfara, has experienced the twin chisel of environmental deterioration and pollution, especially from illegal mining activities. What should have been a blessing.”

At the public lecture with the title ” “Promotion of public health for sustainable and healthy communities”, “ The national president emphasized: “Environmental health is fundamental to public health.

“If our air is not safe to breathe, drink our water unsafe and our country is unsure for agriculture, the tissue of the health of the community is affected. This is not just an environmental crisis. It is an emergency for public health.

“The situation in the Niger Delta is no less tragic. The oil research has devastated ecosystems, poisoned rivers and filled the air with hydrocarbon damps. Once lush and rich country, the biological diversity and hidden incubators of chronic diseases have become cemeteries.

“Contaminants from mining activities introduce heavy metals such as lead, mercury and arsenic into the human food chain and cause neurological, renal and reproductive health disorders.

“In the air, particles from gas flickering and open burn leads to chronically obstructive lung diseases (COPD), cardiovascular symptoms and cancer. Dirty water is breeding for the health of mothers and children.”

Dr. IFeanyi asked the governments at all levels to review and strict environmental protection laws, to contain illegal mining and not -Oil exploration through surveillance and law enforcement and to strengthen and integrate medical laboratory scholars during environmental disasters in national emergency reaction teams.

In her keynote address, the deputy governor of the state of Plateau, Josephine Piyo, emphasized that the fight against these challenges requires global cooperation to alleviate their effects and to protect the environment for future generations.

The deputy governor asked all the municipalities to take over the air quality standards and guidelines defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as instruments to manage air quality.

It also campaigned for sustainable apartments and infrastructures to reduce environmentally related stress for municipalities in need of protection. “For example, flood-resistant houses, clean energy solutions and environmentally friendly building materials can create more secure living conditions.”

Other control measures recommended by you are the introduction of community health programs to prevent the spread of diseases, improve access to health care and to promote healthy behavior in local population groups – all can achieve positive economic and social advantages.
