Port Silberni: BC Hydro has started the restoration work today after the Mount Underwood Wildfire, which has caused more than 500 customers in Bamfield, Bamfield, Huu-A-Away Nation and Ditidaht First Nation, without power since August 11th.

After BC Hydro carried out a complete patrol and damage assessment on August 15 on August 15 on August 15, which confirmed that the damage is important: 56 potency masts and associated wire and hardware must be replaced. The crews have to restrict 70 spans of the streamline – a total of about 20 kilometers. The reconstruction will cover six kilometers, including two kilometers of particularly difficult terrain, which are characterized by steep forested cliffs and unstable rocks.

As of today, three crews are supported by ten vegetation staff and four staff caves. The first efforts focus on preparing the soil and the pole installation. Additional crews are brought to accelerate the reconstruction in the course of the work.

Due to the highway closure, the crews will initially access the location via Duncan and add about two hours of driving per route. As soon as the road is opened again, access will improve significantly.

In view of the scope of the damage and the demanding area, BC Hydro estimates that the electricity restoration could take up to two weeks. The timelines are regularly re -evaluated and BC Hydro is confident because the work continues. The schedule can be accelerated.

The security of BC -Hydro crews, first aiders and the public remains a top priority during this restoration effort. You can find more updates at bchydro.com/outage.
