While we have become a bit more conscious when choosing environmentally friendly products for our daily use, there are still things that we do not know that we damage our eco-footprint. Printing, for example, is something that we deal with every day with books, packaging, brochures and other printed materials. But we rarely think about all the things that in the production of things like ink and how it works for the planet in which we live.

Peerasin Punxh Hutapheat, a graduate of Central Saint Martins and a material novice designer and visual ecologist based in London, has developed an innovative organic-intim also called Growink, which replaces mild places on a petroleum dye with lively fungal pigments. This pioneering project is currently optimized for screen printing and combines science, sustainability and design in a way that could change thinking about ink and its effects on the environment.

Growink has four different colors, each formed in different phases of the mushroom growth and are influenced by biological cycles and environmental conditions. The color system is modeled on the well -known CMYK model (cyan, magenta, yellow, key/black), which is used in traditional printing. However, the version of Growink is known as myco and refers not only to the mushroom jumps of the pigments, but also to the specific mushrooms that are used for every color. Myco stands for Mona (Monaskus) for Magenta, Yarceps (Cordyceps Militaris) for Yellow, Cholo (Chlorociboria Aeruginosa) for Cyan and Obscurus (self -digestive ink by Coprinus Comatus) for deep black. These mushrooms were selected for their rich, lively colors and their ecological advantages. In contrast to motto on a petroleum basis, these natural pigments come from renewable sources and offer a much gentler ecological footprint.

An outstanding function of Growink is the integrated biological degradation. The ink contains inactive bacterial spores, which can be triggered by air humidity or landfill -like conditions. The spores help to reduce synthetic substrates and to transform them into nutrients that support the health of the soil. The speed at which this decomposition occurs depends on several factors, including sunlight, moisture, pH, temperature and presence of floor microbes.

Growink behaves differently depending on the material on which it is printed. The ink remains bright and lively on natural surfaces such as paper or cotton. If the colors are exposed to sunlight, they begin to fade so that the object can be reused, reprinted or composted. This cycle reflects a thoughtful approach for both benefits and environmental responsibility. The decomposition process for Growink ink is considerably harmful to the environment than most of existing alternatives. While the procedure releases small amounts of carbon dioxide and methane under oxygen -low conditions, it remains part of a natural biological degradation cycle and is much cleaner and faster than the collapse of many biodegradable synthetics, especially those that do not come from renewable sources.

Growink is currently optimized for use for a limited series of materials, but Peerasin Punxh Hutaphoat will present broader applications in the future, including the possibility of printing on a larger media variety.
