Complete closure of the state route 172 for emergency restoration

The California Ministry of Transport has announced a complete closure of the state route 172 from Monday, June 9th. The closure extends from Mt. Lasssen Avenue to 5.5 miles east of the intersection with the State Route 36 in Mineral (hole in Bodenstrasse) to facilitate the efforts to restore the emergency in connection with the parking fire. Although this closure is not within Plumas County, it can influence the trip to and to the northern part of the district.

Access to the Mill Creek area remains open over the eastern intersection with SR 36 east of the Morgan Summit. The closure is expected to last until the end of September.

While the Mt. Lasssen Avenue remains open, access within the closed area is given as required to owners and emergency staff. The hole on the floor campground is closed due to damage caused by the parking fire, and in large parts of the affected area there is still a forest closure.

This highway closure is of crucial importance for the acceleration of the emergency restorations after the fire and to remove dangerous trees – which were estimated between 4,000 and 5,000, which were damaged in the fire. Caltrans emphasizes the importance of these efforts for the security of both travelers of public and residents.

For further project information, you will find updates on social media platforms such as Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) and on the Caltrans District 2 website. The public can also contact 530-225-3426 during business hours or by email at 530-225-3426 [email protected].
