Dear editor, editor,
The autumn migration, September Oktober, is the maximum time for birds that drive south for winter. Bright artificial lighting (light pollution) is problematic because it attracts birds and leads to disorientation, exhaustion and collision risks.
About 80% of the wandering birds do this out of security at night. You can help by not eliminating significantly and decorative outdoor lighting from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Principles “Lichter Out” also save energy and money by keeping environments dark and improving the quality of the habitats. You can install time -controlled lighting, movement detectors and lighting down.
Chaffee County currently has 3,000 to 5,000 (low to moderate) birds over us every night. Take a look at bird cast. At different times there can be more than 2 million birds via Colorado.
An additional advantage is to look at our great night sky and the support of our newly designated Browns Canyon National Monument as Dark Sky Park, who wants to preserve and protect the night sky.
