An accidental fire damaged a home in Wilson on Christmas Day.
Wilson Fire/Emergency Services Assistant Chief James P. Campbell said firefighters were dispatched to 103 Vick St. at 9:22 p.m. Wednesday after a structure fire was reported.
“Emergency crews arrived on the scene of a 1,057-square-foot, two-story residential building and observed smoke throughout the building,” Campbell said. “The residents extinguished the fire before we arrived and evacuated the house. The fire department carried out an overhaul and ventilation and investigated the cause.”
Campbell said the fire damage was limited to the room where it started, but there was smoke damage throughout the house.
“The cause of the fire was accidental and caused by equipment failure,” Campbell said. “There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians during this incident.”
Campbell estimated damage at $1,000 to property and $200 to household contents.
Five fire engines and 16 firefighters were on duty.
Campbell said firefighters were assisted by the Wilson Police Department, Wilson County Emergency Medical Services and Wilson County Emergency Communications.
According to Wilson County tax records, the home is owned by Elvia Torres Estrada, who lives there.
