The Gallatin R-5 Board of Education approved funding for the 2025-2026 Career Ladder Plan at its Oct. 22 meeting. The career ladder's total budget is $82,534.05, of which $61,887.75 is earmarked. The county's contribution is $25,800, while the state provides $36,087.75. The program includes 18 participants for the coming year.

Board members also approved gutter and roof repair work with Whitney Roofing. The projects cost $18,600 for gutter installation and $4,300 for school roof repairs.

The board approved several policy updates from the Missouri School Boards Association (MSBA), withholding only one policy requiring enrollment eligibility for further review. Approved updates addressed topics such as the use of artificial intelligence, special education, student dress codes, discipline, behavioral threat assessment, child abuse reporting, staffing reductions, school admissions, weapons in schools, maintaining disciplinary records, and suicide awareness and prevention.

The board also approved the publication of a request for qualifications for performance contracts and the approval of the request for proposals. In addition, members approved the Daviess County Hazard Mitigation Plan, the Special Education Local Compliance Plan and the District-Wide Evaluation Plan.

Following a board meeting, the board accepted the resignations of bus driver Kristy Burns, effective Oct. 15, and food service director Stephanie Lollar, effective May 31. Laura Engel has been hired as a part-time middle school administrator and Brandon Clyde and Hannah Rector have been added to the replacement list for the 2025-2026 school year.

As part of the staffing update, Kimberly Borges has been named to an additional position as assistant middle school girls basketball coach for 2025-2026.

Prior to the meeting, board members conducted a tour of the facility to determine ongoing needs and possible repairs.
