Gasleck leaves 5,200 Allegan County Homes without service, restoration time unknown

5,200 households in Fennville, Douglas and Saugatuck in Allegan County will remain without Gasservice without Gasservice on Wednesday afternoon.

A third -party entrepreneur Grub and met the transmission line for the gas -Main, which leads the gas from Canada to the houses in Allegan County, said officials.

“We have no heat. We have no hot water. So we use fireplaces, grills and electric blankets to stay warm,” said Donna Johnson, a resident of Fennville.

Several agencies reacted to the initial gas leak, with the Allegan County's office closed several streets and the nearby railway system while being contained.

Now restoration efforts are underway.

At the beginning, Michigan Gas Utilities brought crews from all over the middle west to help with a total of more than 100 workers, according to Fennville's City Administrator Katie.

Some crews are currently running from door to door that switch off at home while others are working on repairing the transmission line.

After that, a number of security checks have to take place. As soon as these checks have been completed, the crews can turn on people to switch on the people and start near the break that occurred for the first time.

“It's a kind of multi -stage process,” said Beemer. “And we will work around the clock until this is repaired.”

In the meantime, Beemer said that a number of resources are available for those affected.

The American Red Cross has options for accommodation and heating centers, and the city is compiling a list of places to take a shower or use hot water.

“We would like to make sure that all of our residents who are affected have the feeling that they are supported. However, they have to be supported,” said Beemer.

Michigan Gas Utilities was able to switch off the gas line in the affected area on Wednesday evening, and the Health Ministry of Allegan County said on Thursday that the service may not be completely restored for several days.

Termed residents are recommended to contact Michigan gas suppliers with inquiries for recovery times, and those who need support are asked to contact the Red Cross at 1-800-73-2767.
