Google Home receives a new automation editor in the public preview

Google Home tests a new automation editor that adds “flexibility and comfort to control your smart home with an updated look”.

Go to the Google Home tab on Android and tap on “Create” FAB for “New Automation”. This leads you to a new editor with which you can add a name and optional description.

Tap the “Plus” (which is a limited contact destination) In addition to the starters, conditions (optional) and actions, a sheet slips up:

  • starter: Device, presence, “Hey Google”, schedule
  • Conditions: Presence, time, weekdays, device
  • Actions: Broadcast, device, notification, time delay and ask Google

Various material 3 expressive elements are used throughout the newly designed editor. You can wipe a starter, a state or an action while a switch is activated/deactivated on a high level. It is an urgently needed modernization.

The section “New conditions with device status and presence conditions is remarkable to control when your automation is carried out”.

Google “is actively working on moving all existing functions into this new automation editor.” From the three-point overflow menu in the corner you can return to the “previous household editor”. At the moment it is “only available for household routines”.

  • “Follow the steps for personal routines to create and manage routines in Google Home.”
  • “Other household members who use Android devices and are in the USA can check and start the household routines you have created with the new editor. You can also edit these routines on Android devices if you have chosen the public preview.”

The new automations editor is currently available in the Google Home Public Preview program for Android users in the USA.
