The Puducherry Pollution Control Committee (PPCC) has formulated detailed guidelines to ensure an environmentally friendly idol room quality ceremony in connection with the Vinayaka Chaturthi Festival this week.
In a press supply, N. Ramesh member secretary said these norms were necessary because in the past, clay theaters were replaced, which were produced with different materials and painted with different colors that aggravate the dirt in water.
With regard to the idol immersion in waters, Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi has published detailed guidelines that were published on the state website https://dste.py.gov.in/ppc/pdf/guidelines/4.pdf
Accordingly, PPCC asked the participants to follow the guidelines in Toto, especially with regard to the use of only environmentally friendly materials to prevent contamination and health risk during the Vinayaga Chathurthi Festival.
The idols should only be made from natural, biodegradable, environmentally friendly raw materials such as traditional virtuous sound and mud and without poisonous, inorganic raw materials. The use of plaster from Paris (pop), plastic and thermocol (polystyrene) is prohibited. This also applies to the decoration of idols/pandals/tazia to prevent pollution from recipient water bodies.

To beautify idols, removable and washable decorative clothing may only be used with natural materials and dyes instead of disposable material that contains colors and other toxic chemicals. Only naturally occurring colors of plants (flowers, barks, stamens, leaves, roots, seeds, entire fruits), feathers of different birds, mineral or colored rocks must be used for coloring, said the PPCC.
Craftsmen or craftsmen or manufacturers who are involved in idols should be registered in the civic bodies and should be involved in the production of environmentally friendly idols in accordance with the guidelines.
ARECA/banana/sal -leaves, biodegradable paper cups/panels and earthen pots should be used for the prasad distribution and other purposes.
The forpating material such as flowers, leaves, clothing, decorative materials made of paper and biodegradable should be removed before immersion of idol and separated into color -coded containers, which are provided at the specified idol indoor diving area, the guidelines.
