Historian speaks about the restored Notre Dame Cathedral at the Sippican Historical Society

MARION – The Sippican Historical Society will host a historian who will speak about the restoration and reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral of Paris on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 6:30 p.m.

Dr. Caroline Bruzelius first worked on the cathedral in the early 1980s during a lengthy interior cleaning. According to the Sippican Historical Society, since the April 15, 2019 fire, the cathedral is fully repaired and cleaner than it has been in nearly 800 years.

“The restoration allowed architectural historians and materials scientists to examine the building “up close,” the historical society’s statement said. “This helped them learn more about this magnificent building and Gothic cathedrals in general. Celebrate the beauty of the local limestone, design and construction.”

Bruzelius writes extensively about the religious architecture of the Middle Ages in France and Italy. About the author and other contributors Bruzelius is a founding member of the “Wired!” group. Group at Duke University, founded Visualizing Venice and is a leader in digital art and architectural history, according to the Sippican Historical Society.

The speaker series event is open to members of the Sippican Historical Society and the public. Donations to support programming are welcome. RSVP for the event at sippicanhistoricalsociety.org.
