Historical John R. Park Homestead is reopened according to a large restoration project

The historic John R. Park Homestead has officially opened the public again after a large restoration project.

The restoration work began in autumn 2022, with significant improvements on the roof, fluctuation rays and the foundation of the house were made, large structural repairs required.

In addition to this great work, numerous windows had to be replaced, the southern veranda was rebuilt, new color was applied, among other things.

The Canadian government received a grant from the Canadian Experience Fund, and the Essex Region Conservation Foundation began to increase the balance of the necessary funds. Overall, more than 1 million US dollars were required.

The Tellanie & Barry Zekelman Foundation and many other donors got up to complete this work.

The Essex Region Conservation Foundation will continue to collect money to restore the 11 outbuildings from which the campus of the homestead includes, and repairs to the historic horse rod are expected to take place later this year.

John and Amelia Park lived in the house, which was built in 1842.

The homestead is accessible to the public on Thursdays to Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with approval by donation. From July 2, the extended summer hours will be Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
