St. Croix – The VI Ministry of Education announced on Sunday evening that John H. Woodson Jr. High School will only be reopened on September 8, with the need for critical repairs being completed and the security of the campus is confirmed before redeeming students and employees.

The school was not opened on August 13 with the rest of the territory public schools due to extensive summer care projects. Since then, the Bureau of School Construction and Wartes (BSCM) has completed the repairs of the roof through and carried out mold renovation, with the after-remediation tests being carried out, Vide said.
Climate systems are also installed in classrooms and are expected to be completed in the coming week. Until the department receives the official results of mold and air quality reviews, VID will not reopen the campus. Officials found that the guarantee of a secure learning and work environment for faculties, employees and students has top priority.
With September 1st, which was observed as a vacation, Vide published the proposed reopening plan:
-
Thursday, September 4, 2025 – Reporting on the faculty, paraprofessional and employees to prepare for the classrooms, orientation planning and coordination of documents.
-
Friday, September 5, 2025 – Student orientation for providing instructions, distribution of schedules and answering questions before the start of school.
-
Monday, September 8, 2025 – First official class day for all students.
The department emphasized that this schedule depends on satisfactory form tests and air quality results. “The security and well -being of our students, faculties and employees are the focus of every decision,” said the video.
The recognition of the inconvenience of the delay thanked the parents, legal guardians, students and employees for their patience and support. “We understand the inconvenience and uncertainties that this delay caused, and we appreciate the patience, understanding and support of John H. Woodson School Community.”

The department announced that it will continue to provide updates to the public because new information is being available.
