Considerable rain and strong winds have affected the performance infrastructure in Kodagu and damaged a total of 1,442 electricity poles, 11 transformers and 13.105 km of power lines.

Despite the current negative weather, the efforts to restore the power supply are underway. The authorities of the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) have so far replaced or repaired 1,091 poles and nine transformers. On average, around 100 poles are replaced every day. However, the continuous downpour and the gusty winds hinder progress and cause further damage, a release published by the Executive Engineer (company and maintenance department), said CESC, M. Ramacandra.

In order to accelerate the restoration of the power grid, the Madikeri department of the CESC 231 employees has used. In addition, 52 employees from other departments were introduced together with 75 outsourced employees and 124 contract staff – all equipped with tools and equipment. The teams are working on a throat to restore normality, added the publication.

Officials have recognized that the last 10 days of incessant rain slowed down the repair work and caused repeated disorders of the power supply. Therefore, they have asked the public to work together in the district because the restoration work is underway.

Seat employees and technical employees are still involved in efforts to restore power supply. Due to the workload, section officials may not be able to react immediately to customer calls. Instead, the authorities have set up a dedicated toll-free helpline for the Madikeri department in order to process consumer complaints. Consumers can report problems in connection with power plants by calling the free number: 1800-599-0061.

The executive engineer has assured the public that all efforts are made to restore the power supply at the earliest.
