The Louisville artist Kim Perry was selected to create the art for the Kentucky Derby Festival poster and the goods of Kentucky Derby.
The redesign of a room to reflect a person's personal style includes more than just new furniture, a fresh color layer or additional works of art. Kristen Pawlak, owner and interior designer at KP Designs/Decorating the interior, knows exactly what is going into the revision of a room. After all, she helped design countless houses in and around Louisville.
Here she shares three living rooms with a significant look, along with tips that other homeowners can include in their own abodes.
Gentlemen are the
Early dark and dated, this room was something of a remaining space in a two -story house in Hurstbourne that has been missing for some time. But when the homeowner decided to use the apparently forgotten space, Pawlak came in to make the room lighter and more functional.
“It is the space that the homeowner spends most of the time, and he likes to maintain”
Wallpaper and old wainscoting have been removed and carpet floors were replaced by new hardwood soil. Pawlak also brightened everything, including the walls, the ceiling and the exposed wooden beam.
“Then we just went with beautiful neutral shades of gray and a soft blue palette,” she said.
This included painting the built -in into the one light color and adding a structured blue wallpaper.
“If you have built -in, you should style them in a large way,” added Pawlak. “We have some photos and sentimental things there, but we also put considerable accents and accessories in them – and that really looks best. People sometimes go a little too small with tiny pictures and linking crackers, and this does not do justice to any built -in. “
The wallpaper in the installations is used again at the bar, which is set near a table with benches.
“This table is one of our favorites,” said Pawlak, adding that it offers an additional space for working, serving or seating. In addition, the small cubbies at one end of the piece of furniture are perfect for storing magazines or other materials, including wine bottles. “It's just a great, multifunctional table.”
Update of the Old World
Pawlak gave this family room from OWL Creek a European old look with rustic touches, ceramic pieces and gondola art.
“The homeowners are big travelers,” she said, “so they not only styled the fittings with large accents and accessories, but also recorded things from their travels.”
It adds that everything in this arched space offers classic patterns. The two sofas – made from performance fabrics – sit on a wool, Greek, key patterns. Additional seating is provided by two wooden frame chairs with a Suzani print, and the referred fireplace has a stack stone and structured wall covering. Pawlak also took massive bumps on both sides of the extra large window.
“One of my little pet peeves is that Louisville has many of these large, two-story windows in family rooms,” she added. People tend to cut them off under the bow, but it looks far more professional, designed and attractive to carry out two -story treatments. “
Craftsman adjustment
The inspiration for the living room of this Highland house started with a velvety green sofa.
“We really started here,” said Pawlak.
She explains that the homeowner loves to talk, so she put two chairs on the sofa for additional seating. In the middle, a set of three small tables offers slightly movable surfaces for holding drinks and snacks.
“The chairs have small excerpts and beautiful, soft lines,” added Pawlak. “It is very feminine like the sofa with golend strikes.”
An accent table with a star -shaped top offers a shot gold, as does some of the works of art that were painted by the homeowner. Other colors were pulled out of the artwork and also used in additional places in the room, e.g.
Pawlak contained the same green tones in the wallpaper of Powder Room, which is visible from the living room.
“There are always certain pieces or a color palette that can honor the architecture of a house without being too specific,” she said, adding that the button of the sofa offers vintage mood, while the individual pillow of the bank's seats gives an updated look. “It feels like a modern home in which you can live.”
