Marina – The city of Marina is on the best way to transform the base buildings of the Fort Ord Army into a revitalized fitness and recreation complex of the community, for which its citizens have asked for years.
In March, Marina's city council received an update about the design of the Marina Aquatic & Sports Complex, which the public was able to check, comment and make suggestions in a public workshop at the end of April.
“The biggest snack bar is that pretty much the whole city is enthusiastic about the project, it is of the opinion that it is good, and the city has sufficient funding for it,” said Marina Mayor Bruce Delgado.

The aquatic and sports complex is located in the 2nd Avenue in the east, in the 9th Street in the north, in the 8th Street in the south and in the VA/DOD clinic. It is located next to the future Dunes City parking project, with the main buildings of the complex the planned renovated aquatic center, the renovated sports center and the addition for the structure between the two. The complex and dunes park area should add access to both.
The plans for the complex are currently exceeded from the design development phase into the phase of the construction document.
“A schematic design permit is going through,” said Delgado. “The final design and tendering process will follow … The construction is expected to begin in May 2026, and the doors could be open to health and jump in mid-2027.”
The estimated costs for the project are $ 41.1 million and are financed from various sources, including $ 18.4 million in the amount of $ 18.4 million from the Fort Ord Reususe Authority Distolution Fund.
“The financing of this project takes place from funds that the former Fort ART must be issued to tear down or improve abandoned army properties,” said Delgado. “This includes Fora -BreihegeFelds, Fora Treuhand -Bond -Fund, their interest and the former Fora Community Facilities District fees that are only paid for by Dunes and Sea Haven's developments.”
At a city council meeting in November last November, the management committee approved, which was approved with the conclusion of the designs, the coordination of the Dune City Park project and the update of the financial model.
The city says its goal is to create a state -of -the -art recreation center for the coming years in Marina and the surrounding community.
The connection building will be a two -story structure. The second floor, which is highlighted by studio and program areas, with patos to the north and south and the office area of the administrative office. On the first floor, a café and a commercial cuisine with an accompanying terrace as well as reception and administrative space, lobby, multi-purpose room and a common room shows.
The aquatic center is around 25,000 square meters, including a competitive pool of 6,200 square foot and a multi -purpose pool of 4,200 square foot with an area of 7,000 square meters. The 25 -meter competition pool with a 25 -meter competition can be accommodated with plans for movable stands on water polo and swimming meetings. The competition pool can be used to use relaxation if they are not used for competitions. The recreational/multi-purpose pool has four zones, including a children's zone, a wellness/teaching area with a therapy and social area, a current channel and a 20-yard-lap swimming area. Senior lights and windows bring in natural light and the Aquatics Center can be seen from the outside from the café terrace and the terrace on the second floor.
The sports center is around 23,000 square meters in size and is renovated to use the most important 12,800 square meters of courtyard to add fitness, strength training, cardio and conditioning as well as areas. There will also be an auxiliary fitness studio with lawn. The main course will accommodate several purposes by a 50'x94 'exhibition championship basketball court, six 37' times 42 'basketball -half dishes, three 30' x 60 'volleyball spaces, five 20' times 44 'pimple ball dishes and five 20' from 44 'badminton courts (5). The room could also be used as a roll -derby ice rink. The sports center will include the locker for men and women and changing rooms, showers and benches as well as family lining rooms. Hiking trails are planned for both the first and the second floor, the latter overlook the main room. Meeting options are available, some of which may be movable.
Since the master plan for Parks and Recreation Facilities 2005, the municipality has expressed strong support for a centrally located recreation center with an indoor swimming pool, a high school and sports fields.
