Midlothian's homeowner meets with Bloomfield founders for home problems

The founder of Bloomfield Homes met after a WFAA report with a Midlothian house owner, agreed to some repairs and was at the company's work.

Midlothian, Texas – this was not a social call. Not a friendly drop-in.

The founder of Bloomfield Homes rang on the doorbell of Donnie Foxx 'Midlothian Home – weeks after a WFAA story pointed out to his symptoms. Among them was a leaky roof that caused mold in the front room. The Foxxes say that it took a fixed months.

But the Foxxes say that others remain problems – and they are not alone. Other neighbors have expressed concerns and they filed a lawsuit.

“We also had a lot of compliments,” said Don Dykstra, founder of Bloomfield, during the home station, for which WFAA was present. “We also had homeowners who told us that someone went up and down the street to include people.”

Dykstra said his company built 20,000 houses and a good record.

“We are not perfect in Bloomfield, but we try it,” he said.

The round started in the bedroom.

“This gap shouldn't be there,” said Foxx and pointed to the room between the wooden floor and baseboard. “This is a big gap.”

Dykstra said he agreed and confirmed the floor specialist that he had brought with him that they would replace it.

He agreed to repair part of the soil – also what was not necessary.

“Let us agree and do not agree,” said Dykstra. “This is a beautiful house. I would be proud to live here.”

But then came what Foxx called “the elephants in the room” – a cracked granite kitchen island.

“It is as if the record has dropped or something,” said Foxx. “It was so when it was installed.”

He said that the builder's guarantee representative came out and put glue in the crack.

“I see that it is … the question is how it came there and when,” said Dykstra.

He told the Foxxes that he would consult the Granite Company and check what the plate looked like during installation and whether it could be a natural imperfection in the stone.

Outside the house, Foxx pointed out what he described the “larger elephant” – the drainage problems.

He said when it rains, the dirt and the grass slide. The farm is not classified properly, he said, and he had to bring in Jegel and replace the grass annually.

He described the problem as a limestone underneath, with a thin layer of sand and grass above.

Dykstra said Bloomfield did not develop the neighborhood – they bought the land. He showed Foxx a technical survey that had signed Foxx when closing.

He told Foxx that he changed drainage by moving into dirt and that it could lead to water coming into the house.

“I think I would say that this farm lets the way the engineer designed it,” said Dykstra.

Foxx wanted Bloomfield to install a retaining wall for which he had previously received offers of $ 30,000.

“You can definitely build a retaining wall, but I don't think this is a Bloomfield responsibility,” said Dykstra.

Foxx disagreed and said he thinks it should have done before buying the house.

Dykstra admitted that they had a difference in opinion over the yard, but added: “I only guess that we could communicate. I think talking and communication solves a lot of things.”

He said Bloomfield had a good story with Foxx and found that the company had made some repairs that had no guarantee problems.

He also said that there was another complaint and that Bloomfield offered to repair these warranty articles. Foxx was not satisfied, however.

“I don't think they are behind the house they built,” he said. “People expect high quality – and if it is not high quality and you make a guarantee request, you expect you to get out the first time and remedy you correctly.”
