Do you love the charm of the historic houses, but are you worried about repairs and renovations?

Boxes. Slate or tile roofs. Plaster. Repointing. The list of potential work to restore and maintain a historical home can appear discouraging. The reality is that the fight against these repairs and renovation work does not have to be intimidating.

The annual NKY RESTERATION WEEKEND Event on Saturday, May 17th is the one-stop shop for rehabilitation expertise and resources that make your mind easier. The Historic Preservation Office of Covington Economic Development is a founding member of the NKY restoration and the sponsors of the event that will take place at the Newport Intermediate School.

Registration ends on Friday, May 16, at 3 p.m., but personal registration will be available on Saturday morning at the event.

The day is teeming with a number of loudspeakers, the control of the restoration and rehabilitation topics such as plaster repair … wooden window -Reha … Box -channels … Masonry reposinting … Energy saving with storm windows … Application and use of Kentucky -Historical tax credits … Purchase, insurance and renovation financing of historical properties and much more.

“This is a great event, regardless of whether you understand the historical house you bought, you understand how you can fix problems in old buildings or simply contact craftsmen and merchants with special skills,” said Kaitlin Bryan, Covington's historical preservation specialist who has helped with the organization and will be present at the event.

NKY RESTERATION is a collaborative group of historical preservation enthusiasts, which includes business representatives, non-profit organizations, historical preserving offices in Nordkentucky and the Greater Cincinnati and others who share their passion for the historical structure of the region.

The annual event for restoration weekends is intended to ignite a passion for historical preservation and local history and help homeowners to discover solutions for the repair and maintenance of their historical houses, to determine which projects they can carry out themselves and gain confidence in the hiring of a contractor. The event also serves as an event location for participants to combine and share their stories about the history and cultural assets of the region.

The advance registration is recommended because the event usually attracts up to 300 participants and the meetings quickly fill up. Template for registration events, location and additional information can be found using the online registration form for the NKY RESTERATION WEEKEND.

Free parking spaces are available in the school parking lot. Coffee and snacks will be available free of charge this morning and with the kind permission of Biggby coffee. And free lunch is made available by local restaurants.
