Vastudio carves three houses from the Cretan stone in Greece
KK3 residences from Vastudio, which are outside of Chania, Greece, on the slopes of Stados, examine what it means to build with sensitivity in one place where the landscape, climate and cultural memory are inseparable. The studio entered three individual houses directly into the rocky hill and uses local stone, lime plaster and local vegetation to earth the project in the character of Crete.
From a distance, the buildings feel like a continuation of the earth. Her steamed tones, sound and pale stone animals the dry, sun-washed palette of the surrounding mountains. The goal was not to reinterpret traditional Cretan architecture, but to reinterpret its essence.

KK3 residences react to the contours of the slopes
Chania is based Vastudio refers to the solid, monastic properties of the older structures of the island at the same time contemporary lines, expansive openings and subtle details. Each of the KK3 residences differs slightly in the layout and reacts to the natural contours of the website. Some stretch horizontally with the tendency, others rise in a more compact vertical shape. What connects them together is a common architectural language based on handmade surfaces, deep overhangs, wooden ceilings and courtyards, which act as transition zones between inside and out. These are houses that have been developed for a slower rhythm in which outside trailers and shady patos are just as important as the interior itself.

Thick stone walls ensure all -year -old insulation
Sustainability plays a quiet but decisive role in the KK3 Residences project. The orientation, the thermal mass and the natural ventilation systems of the project reduce the dependence on mechanical warming and cooling. The architects of Vastudio contain large windows to greet the cross breeze and frame expansive view of the white mountains and the Cretan sea, while thick stone walls offer natural insulation and maintain a comfortable internal temperature for the whole round. The landscape design is deliberately reserved, with olive trees, Mediterranean shrubs and local palm trees, which reinforce the idea that the architecture is part of the ecosystem.
