OpenDroids beats 1X's Neo in real-world dishwashing testing - with twice the speed and a fraction of the funding

San Francisco, CA – November 2025 – OpenDroidsa robotics startup focused on practical home and workplace automation announced today that its humanoid robot has done so completed a full load of the dishwasher about twice as fast as the Neo robot from 1X Technologiesdespite operation about 1/100 of the capital raised by its better-financed competitor.

In a recent demonstration of a side-by-side kitchen, the OpenDroids robot and Neo were tasked with it, respectively Loading a standard dishwasher with dishes from a countertop and sink. Under comparable conditions, the OpenDroids unit roughly completed the job half the timeshows what the company calls “capital efficient automation” Achieve more with significantly less money.

“Everyone is talking about billion-dollar robots. We wanted to prove that you don't need a billion dollars to do real work,” he said Jack Jesionowski, Founder of OpenDroids. “With about a hundredth of Neo’s funding, our robot loaded the dishwasher twice as fast. It’s not just flexibility, it’s proof that poor technique and strict focus can beat raw capital.”

Proof that speed and junk still matter

While much of the industry focuses on glossy demos and mega rounds, OpenDroids made a conscious decision to have one boring, unavoidable houseworkdoing the dishes to illustrate a larger point:

  • Real task, real environment – No lab tricks. A standard kitchen, real dishes and a common household appliance.
  • Direct comparison – Same core task: identify dishes, grab them and load them into the appropriate baskets.
  • Capital Efficiency – OpenDroids claims to have issued 1/100 of Neo financing and still delivered faster real-world performance in this test.

“We respect what teams like 1X are building. But this demo shows something important,” he added Sebastian Paredes, CMO or OpenDroids. “The future won't just be won by whoever raises the largest sum. It will be won by whoever can translate every dollar into actual, repeatable tasks in the real world.”

Doing More with Less: A Different Robotics Playbook

Instead of chasing the perfection of science fiction, OpenDroids focuses on Completion of a limited number of high-frequency tasks that matter most to homes and businesses: cleaning, organization and basic handling.

The dishwasher demo is the first in a series of public benchmarks the company plans to release, all centered around one idea: “Show, don’t tell.”

  • Task first, not hype first – Each demo is chosen for economic value: tasks people hate, time companies can't waste.
  • Capital discipline – Lean teams, smaller budgets and faster iteration cycles.
  • Execution takes precedence over aesthetics – If it gets the job done faster and reliably, it wins.
