A frustrated homeowner turned to Reddit for advice after his neighbor was spreading lies about his greenhouse.
According to the original poster, her neighbor went around telling other people in the community that the OP was breeding and keeping rats in his greenhouse. Although this is far from the truth, the neighbor persists in his outlandish claims.
The neighbor even went so far as to call a pest controller in the OR, and even the pest controller tried to reassure him that the OP doesn't breed rats. But nothing seems to stop the neighbor's harassment.
“His partner was in my greenhouse when I showed her my tomato plants and asked if she wanted the excess crop, so she tried to tell him that he was also delusional,” the OP wrote.
Reddit users sympathized with the OP and tried to offer possible solutions to deter the rat-breeding delusions.
“I hope you have a sturdy fence or wall around your property that will deter him and serve as a definitive boundary so it will be obvious if he trespasses,” one user wrote.
Managing difficult neighborhood relationships can be particularly challenging. Across the United States, neighbors act as barriers to homeowners trying to make eco-friendly changes to their homes.
The OP also mentioned how the neighbor called the police about using a compost bin. In similar situations, neighbors have cut down homeowners' trees without their consent, complained about gardens with native plants, and trespassed on homeowners' properties.
Fortunately, in this case, the OP's neighbors know that the claims about their greenhouse are false. To protect her household from other false and potentially damaging claims made by the neighbor, the OP also installed cameras on her property and kept a spreadsheet of all incidents with the neighbor.
Redditors continued to discuss the neighbor's frustrating behavior.
“If my neighbor told me that another neighbor was raising rats in his greenhouse, I would laugh in his face,” one user commented. “The idea is ridiculous.”
“I would hide realistic stuffed animals in the garden,” one user joked.
