Plans of the Ramona Community Library Plans 8 weeks closure for roof repairs san Diego Union-Tribune

The Ramona Community Library is closed several weeks after the necessary repair of the water damage, according to the officials.

The approximately eight -week closure is planned for Wednesday, February 19 to Monday, April 21.

“The security and comfort of our customers and employees are our top priorities,” said Migell Acosta, library director. “To temporarily close the Ramona library to repair the roof, is a necessary step to ensure that the facility remains an inviting and safe space for everyone.”

During the closure, guests can still use some services.

The bookmobile will be in the parking lot, said library officers with a small selection of surfing. The book mobile can also take on booklet gymnastics and collection.

Book mobile hours are planned on Tuesdays from 12 noon to 6 p.m., Wednesdays to Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Since the library holds a complete list of events per week, several classes have to move during repairs.

The Open Book Bookstore is located in the building and is operated by Friends of the Ramona Library.

“The roof has been escaping for some time,” said Maxine McNamara, President of the Friends of the Ramona Library, even though she found that the bookshop does not do any damage.

The organization collects donations, acts as a lawyer for the library and offers a variety of services and programs free of charge.

The business sells new and gently used books, DVDs, CDs and puzzles. Donations of the same objects are accepted, but are limited to two bags or boxes a day due to space considerations, said McNamara.

“We will not be able to go to the building to get books as soon as it is closed. Therefore, we plan to take out some of the books that are worth a certain value and try to sell them online,” said McNamara. “Otherwise we have no income for this time.”

Friends will also be sold on Saturday, February 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“The sale is particularly large because we got books from other library branches for sale,” she said. “We deliver the bags and buyers can fill them, and each bag only costs 4 US dollars.”

Until the closure, friends remain open from Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesdays from 12 noon to 6 p.m.

The Yoga instructor Hank Newman, who has a careful movement yoga class on Mondays in the library, said Since many national holidays tend to fall on Mondays, he usually takes precautions with the Ramona Rathaus to use one of their adjoining rooms.

“It's a bit smaller than the library, but we can fit in at that time,” said Newman.

He also teaches yoga in the city in a different place, but said that this place has no place for its Monday classes.

The classes take place from 2:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. For more information, send an e -mail to Newman at: hnewm@msn.com.

Rose Evans has been teaching Tai Chi, a training program for the movement of meditation, in the Ramona Library for five years.

She said she had to take alternative precautions for her class several times.

“It is a community resource room, so sometimes other events have priority, such as the voter registration and the possibility of a power failure,” said Evans.

Her courses, which normally take place on Thursdays from 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the library, will meet during the temporary closure at the Ramona/Julian Academy of Dance, 1530 Main St., Studio A.

“However, the dance studio is closed on March 27, so there will be no class that day,” she said.

Although the library is free of charge for lessons, the dance studio asks for a small donation that Evans said that the students normally cover and cover.

Further information on the Evans class can be found at 760-822-3272.

The feeding of San Diego Food Pantry, which is not produced perishable food and once a month, is not much changed despite the closure.

According to Carissa Casares from San Diego, the food food chamber will take place on the fourth to April on the fourth Tuesday of February to April from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the library's parking lot. It will be normal again in May.

Other groups that meet in the library should receive instructions from their trainers or call the library to obtain further information.

“It took us a long time to return from Covid,” said McNamara, referring to personal library visits. “Participation was incredible this year and we hope that people will continue to return to the library after reopening.”

Most instructors remain positive about the temporary closure.

“I am only glad that funds are available to have the roof repaired,” said Evans.

Acosta asked for patience in the library downtime.

“We appreciate the understanding of the community … while we are working on completing these essential improvements,” she said.
