Restoration company sees a high call volume; 1,600 customers are waiting for help

Milwaukee – The confidante sound of industrial fans has been filling households throughout the southeast of Wisconsin for weeks, while the recovery crews are working to repair almost 1,000 houses that were damaged during the floods on August 10.

Tom Vanden Boom with Paul Davis said that the company restored about 960 houses after the strong rainfall and the floods that concerned the region.

“I have never seen such an event in my time,” said Vanden Boom.

“The last few weeks have passed. It was continuous. At the peak, we have an average of four calls per minute,” said Vanden Boom.

One of these calls came from Jason Wertz, who went on vacation in Hawaii when his swamp pump began to support.

“The next morning I was able to bring someone here what was huge,” said Wertz.

Wertz estimates that one foot water flooded its finished basement while he was not in the city.

“Just a few hours after the storm were about six or seven centimeters. But we don't quite know because we weren't in the city. We think about one foot,” said Wertz.

The flood ruined a large part of its finished basement and filled a garbage container with things.

“We had an insulation in the wall and this insulation absorbed a lot of water, so we really wanted to escape from mold or mildew in the street,” said Wertz.

According to the Vanden Boom, timing is crucial in the restoration of floods.

“Timing is everything. The faster we reach a project, go home and start the drying process, the more likely it is that we save products, whether it is floors, personal property, but timing is all,” he said.

Despite the company's efforts, Paul Davis still has a waiting list of around 1,600 people in the hope that their houses will be restored.

“We all try to use. We try to call everyone back, we try to answer every call. It is a discouraging task. We are still working through,” said Vanden Boom.

For customers like Wertz, the company's commitment has made a more difficult situation more manageable.

“Just know that the promises they made were fulfilled, it makes it a little easier to deal with it,” said Wertz.
