XIGAZE, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) — A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in Xigaze City in early January, destroying thousands of houses.
Ten months after the earthquake, more than 32,500 destroyed or damaged houses have been restored and handed over to affected residents, according to Xigaze city authorities.
Less than three days after the earthquake, Xizang unveiled a post-disaster reconstruction plan and began preparatory work, which included field surveys, housing planning and debris removal.
The restoration work covered 486 villages in seven counties and resulted in the reconstruction of more than 22,000 houses and the strengthening of another 10,500 houses. The first residents affected by the earthquake moved into new houses in August.
